The tunnel is being built on the high-speed railway between Shenzhen and Jiangmen, it passes under water at the mouth of the Zhujiang River. During the four years of construction, the underwater highway has stretched for 4 km and is deepening by about 2 meters every day.
The total diameter of the tunnel is 13 meters and the length is 13.69 km. After the completion of the project, the trip between the cities will take only one hour, which will significantly improve passenger transportation in the Guangdong—Hong Kong—Macau region and strengthen the transport infrastructure of southern China.
Construction is being carried out through complex geological formations under enormous pressure, and the facility is now in a crucial phase. Its unique engineering characteristics make the project one of the largest underwater tunnels in the world.
