In China, the company is being fined almost 5 billion rubles for pollution of the Sea of Japan

Rosprirodnadzor has filed a lawsuit against a Chinese shipping company to recover almost 5 billion rubles in damage after the sinking of a cargo ship in the Sea of Japan.

The lawsuit was filed against the company that owns the Yong Xing 56 ship, which sank in February 2023 in the Tatar Strait. A cargo ship under the flag of the People's Republic of China, en route with a cargo of alumina to the port of Vanino, was damaged in the ice and a few days later sank to the bottom at a depth of more than 250 meters, while the crew was evacuated.

According to the court, the amount of the claims is about 5 billion rubles and is related to the damage caused to the water body. The supervisory authority insists on compensation for environmental damage caused as a result of the accident.

Previously, the owner of the vessel was ordered to raise it from the bottom before April 2025, but the deadlines were not met. The hearing of the case in the Arbitration Court of the Khabarovsk Territory is scheduled for September 2026.
